Can’t set up Google accounts with a Gmail managed configuration

Overview
You may want to remotely configure a device user’s work Gmail account by using Gmail managed configuration. However, when the device user opens the Gmail app, the following error occurs:
The account cannot be set up yet
Cause
Gmail managed configuration only supports Microsoft Exchange accounts that use the Exchange ActiveSync email server. Google accounts can’t be set up with a Gmail managed configuration.
Resolution
If you’d like to use a managed configuration with the Gmail app, you can set up a Microsoft Exchange account.
